Rear differential clunk when accelerating

When I am stopped, then accelerate, there is a definite "clunk" sound from the front end of my truck. It doesn't happen every single time, but enough to where I think this may be an issue.

It has recently started to make a single knock or clunk sound when I accelerate and brake. It used to only do it upon braking. I took it to one Dodge dealership to see about having it fixed and I described the noise to them as hearing it in the rear of the car. And sometimes I can feel the vibration of the clunk through the floor in my feet as.

I have the common clunk/thump when I go over bumps - but I'm talking about a sensation close to a thump when I accelerate or decelerate. On the gas and I can feel quite a bit of play/hesitation and it feels like it's coming from the rear. Only happens when I get on the throttle or off the throttle - feels like loose mounts.

Stick the base to the housing, and set the "finger" of the dial gauge on any tooth face of the ring gear. One you are set, move the differential back and forth so that it rocks between two.

The transmission has already been checked and was told there is nothing wrong. Now, I notice a distinctive clunk/pop when shifting in drive - most notable when I have shifted from reverse to drive. These prop shafts bolt to flanges on both the front and rear ends, and the flange on the transmission had issues with the retaining bolt being loose causing noise.

In stop-and-go traffic this morning and last week, after accelerating to move forward, I get a "clunk" or "knock" from the rear of the vehicle just before the wheels stop turning. The XMSN seems to be shifting smoothly and during normal acceleration it seems fine. The noise appears to be comming from the rear of the car. I put it on the lift and checked the axels, u-joint, carrier.

I just had the Outback in for a safety and everything checked out but I did notice a bit of floatation in the rear diff when swinging on it.

I was driving to work friday morning when trying to accelerate from a stop light heard a loud clunk in the rear end and felt like a loss of power when going. It looks like you have a damaged/missing rear differential bushing. That is a bushing used to mount the differential to the frame/attaching point. You can clearly see the "clunk" when shifting the transmission into gear. I will look up a diagram for the related components and get back to you.
